Component CDataverse Alpha2026–2028

A space to learn, test and build.

LA Referencia’s Dataverse Alpha validates the data infrastructure, demonstrates its functions and supports training in data management and curation throughout the project.

Purpose of the Alpha

Publishing data requires more than storing files.

The Alpha is a learning and validation environment: it makes it possible to experience data publishing before institutional deposits are added to the regional repository.

Description and context

Metadata, documentation and provenance help make every file understandable and reusable.

Formats and visualization

Tables, geospatial data and images require different ways to query, navigate and preview them.

Terms of use

Authorship, licensing and the link to the original source remain visible in every example.

Capabilities in practice

A complete journey through data publishing.

The example collection demonstrates concrete tasks that will later support curation, training and institutional onboarding workflows.

01

Deposit

Add files in different formats.

02

Describe

Add authorship, an abstract and keywords.

03

Organize

Structure collections and files.

04

License

Make reuse conditions explicit.

05

Visualize

Explore tables, images and geospatial data.

06

Reuse

Download, cite and reuse data.

Current public collection

Examples that make the repository’s operation visible.

The LA Referencia ↗ collection brings together externally sourced materials used with permission. Each record keeps credits, terms of use and a link to its original source.

Training and pilots

Infrastructure is learned by using it.

The Alpha will be the practice environment for the data management and curation training program. It will connect training content with real tasks: describing datasets, reviewing metadata, organizing files, applying licenses and preparing responsible publications.

It will also be the starting point for work with pilot institutions and for developing new curation tools throughout the three-year project.

2026

Validate and train

Publish examples and begin training activities.

2027

Pilots and tools

Work with institutions and curation workflows.

2028

Consolidate

Prepare the stable regional repository.

Project horizon

A regional repository as a public good.

During the three-year project, the Alpha will evolve with pilot institutions, regional curation capacity and new support tools. The goal is to consolidate LA Referencia’s regional data repository as shared, sustainable infrastructure governed as a regional public good.
